The difference between aluminum plate T5 and T6

The quenching of the aluminum plate is suddenly reduced from high temperature to low temperature for quenching. For example, the steel blade is hardened and sharpened in the water, and the quenching of the aluminum is both water-cooled and quenched. The 6063 aluminum profile for construction is quenched by air-cooling, and the quenched aluminum profile is placed in the aging furnace for a certain period of time. The internal crystal of the aluminum profile is rearranged, and the mechanical strength is obviously improved. Among all metal alloys, only the aluminum alloy is in an aging state.

The forming temperature of the extruded aluminum sheet is 460 to 500 degrees and the temperature after quenching is generally required to be 200. After high-temperature extrusion molding, the state of artificial aging after solution heat treatment (quenching) is air-cooling (T5); it is cooled by a high-temperature extrusion molding process and then subjected to artificial aging in a state of water cooling (T6).

T5 is air-cooled after extrusion and T6 is water-cooled after extrusion. The hardness is improved after water quenching. However, if the aluminum material needs to be bent, try not to be in the state of T6.

Some people think that the difference between aluminum plate T5 and T6 is only the difference of cooling speed, not the difference between air-cooled and water-cooled. The cooling rate of air-cooling is large enough to achieve T6 effect. On the contrary, if the water cooling and cooling rate is not enough, the state is just to be T5.

In fact, the T6 state can be either in-line quenching (water cooling or strong air cooling) or off-line quenching (quenching with quenching furnace), but it should be determined according to customer requirements and product specifications. In actual production, the key to the production process is to meet the mechanical strength requirements of the aluminum profile product.

Hardness has nothing to do with air cooling rate and water cooling speed. The better the cooling effect, the better the hardness after aging. Why is there a difference between T5 and T6? Because the size of T5 air-cooled product will not be deformed and almost all profiles such as doors and windows will choose T5, while T6 is thinner than water. The profile will deform when exposed to water, especially if the opening has a tendency to deform when exposed to water. Of course, you can also use the form of floating water to pass the water, which is the kind of spray-type water. The effect of the product after passing the water will of course be much better than the air-cooling effect. 6063 aluminum plate - T5 between 10-13 and 6063-T6 can reach 13 or more.

SIGMA ALUMINUM could supply kinds of aluminum sheets, also could be customized, welcome your inquiry!
